COPENHAGEN, DENMARK: What can I tell you about Copenhagen that a tour book hasn’t already mentioned? The two things that come to mind, one of which might actually be on the pages of a Lonely Planet or Rough Guides already: 1) it is tres expensive, 2) there are some really good cocktails being made there.
We tried a couple gin joints but one has the impression that it is hard to go wrong with any that show up on your Google Maps search, but the one that really stands out from this trip is The Union Bar. Not only were the bar staff friendly and generous with the pours, they were really helpful with recommendations. In this way I felt as though I were back in one of the New York speakeasies, where the main attraction is high quality cocktails and good service. I think we take good service for granted in the US at times. Living in the UK for any period of time you notice these things much more when you come across it.
There is no one cocktail I would recommend but just trust the bar staff, and if you need any encouragement let these snapshots be your guide. At one point I had four different concoctions in front of me!
